What is the UVA Career Center?
The Career Center is a great resource for both students and employers. The Career Center helps our diverse population of students achieve their career-related goals through such resources as appointments with career counselors, advice throughout the job search process, and information about a broad array of networking opportunities and career events.
The Career Center holds drop-in hours at varous locations on grounds each week, designated by Community. Students may choose to receive updates about programs and jobs related to each of the six communitites. The six communities are:
- Business
- Creative
- Education & Youth Development
- Science & Technology
- Public Service & Government
- Healthcare
The UVA Career Center provides all U.Va. students access to their resources. The ECO recommends that you take full advantage of the Career Center in your career planning and your internship and job searches. Services and programs for students include On Grounds Interviewing (OGI) and job postings through Handshake, career advising, self-assessments, career fairs, and a graduate school fair during the year.
Handshake is a resource that the Career Center provides for all university students. It is a rich resource to use in your job search and is the database the ECO uses for all appointment scheduling and event coordination. As stated on the Career Center website, Handshake includes:
- Job listings targeted toward U.Va. students (including Federal Work-Study and On-Grounds student employment opportunities)
- On-Grounds Interviewing information for students seeking summer internships and full-time employment
- Job Search Agents to automate your job search and receive e-mails about new opportunities
- Resume, Cover Letter, and Transcript storage to assist with job applications
